Pet Carrier Dog
Has anyone ever taken a pet on an AirPlane?
have a 4lbs dog. I have called one airline carrier and they said she has to go in the cargo area. I know I have seen people on air planes with pets in pet carriers in the cabin. My dog would not do well in the cargo area she would be terrified.
- Is the cargo area pressurized?
- Do you know of a carrier that will allow a small dog in the cabin?
- Is it Safe for her to be in the cargo area? Will they make sure her cage does not bounce around while in flight?
Absolutely NOT!!!!!
Specially if your pet is only 4 lbs?! you should Absolutely be able to keep him with you.
I have traveled with my pet- she's a 10 LBS Yorkie! American airlines, Delta and United. Also smaller companies such as Jet Blue etc.
This is what you do- you call the air line company after you've purchased your flight ticket and tell them that you will be bringing your 4lb dog with you and that he will be in a carry on. They will charge you an additional $100 to $125 dollars as a "pet ticket".
You buy a carry on that meets the airline's requirements (they will give you the measures of the carry on which goes UNDER the seat that is right in front of you, meaning that your pet will be right at your feet.) and show up with your dog that day at the airport. You don't pay for the ticket until you get to the airport and "check" your pet in. He/she must stay inside this crate the whole trip though- they won't allow you to bring him out at all.
You will also need to bring with you a health certificate which the airline will require. You get this from your dog's vet which is basically just a print out of all of your dog's shots to let the air line know that your pet is up to date on his shots and safe.
So, all in all:
1) chose the company that you're going to travel on
2) call their customer service dept. and speak with a LIVE person (not a computer) who you can ask if you can bring your pet with you, and what are the crate meassurements that you need to stick to, to be able to put your dog under the seat.
3) go to your vet and get a health certificate showing that your pet is up to date on all his shots (this should be dated within 10-15 days of your flight)
4) Buy the crate and stick to the Airline's size requirements (which they should give to you over the phone)
5) bring your pooch to the airport inside his crate, buy his ticket at the counter on the day of your travel
6) Pray that your dog is not a cryer, and enjoy your trip with your best friend =)
Good luck!

You known you love your pet almost as much as you love other members of your family after all most pet owners consider their loving pets to be a member of the family. As such when your pet becomes ill it is important that he be taken to the vet as quickly as possible to remedy any medical condition that may be affecting him.
In cases such as this you want to provide the best medical care possible without having the unnecessary worry of how you will ever be able to pay the vet fees. Signing up for pet insurance is one way that you can ensure that you have the necessary funds and resources to economically take you ill pet for treatment. Having a pet insurance policy will provide you with the piece of mind that your animal will be in good hands regardless of what has happened to it. When selecting a cat or dog insurance program you should keep the following points clearly in mind.
Let's start out with a few statistics. Did you know that 1 in 3 pets require veterinary services each year? This is why it is so important if you care for your pet to obtain a good pet insurance from a reliable and trustworthy company. When illness strikes your pet you want to be sure that the company you selected will provide him with the proper and quality care that you would expect for a human being.
When receiving quotes on your pet insurance make certain that there are no hidden costs associated with the coverage. The premium quote that you receive should be the actual price you pay for the insurance. For your ease of use many agencies have the capability for monthly direct debiting of your required premiums. Since UK has an insurance premium tax you should check to make sure as to whether it is included in the quote or not.
Look at the past record of your potential insurance carrier. Do they settle their claims quickly and in an adequate fashion? Ask your local vet if he is familiar with the company and how the claims are handled. Does the insurance company raise your rates if you submit a claim? This can be very important as this could be a ploy which is used to get you out from under the insurance company's coverage as your pet starts to age and requires more medical treatments.
Another question of interest is whether the company deals merely with pet insurance or uses it as a sideline. Will you start to receive advertisements and spam for other types of insurance such as auto, life or home insurance?"
Naturally it stands to reason that you should compare the premiums from several companies. Respectable agencies should have competitive premiums while covering most breeds of dogs and cats.
Lastly does the company have a refund policy on insurance that is cancelled within the first two weeks of coverage? Perhaps this is an option in the event that no claims have been submitted. I would also like to mention at this time that you should check to see who the underwriters of the policies are.
