How can we get our neighbors' dog to stop barking every morning?

They know that their dogs' barking is extremely annoying,

You made a commitment to each other. You set up house and bought scatter cushions online. The next step was to get a puppy or a kitten as a cute little test run for parenthood. Actually, having a pet together is as big a commitment (well, almost) as having kids and if you break up you'll have to discuss who gets pet custody. Here's how to handle it.

Consider your pets' feelings, no matter how spitting mad you feel, urges Nicola, 25, an environmental consultant. She moved in with her boyfriend, Anthony, after seven months together, and brought along Meridyth-May, her beloved albino Jack Russell. The couple then acquired Snacks, a crossbreed, to keep Meridyth-May company.

When the relationship ended almost a year later, Nicola took a mature approach regarding their pets. Since Anthony's house had a garden and she was moving in with family friends without a garden, the two decided the animals should stay with him - which meant letting go of her own dog. 'It sucks because I really love Meridyth-May. Leaving your dogs behind is like leaving your kids but I know they're safer and happier there and I want the best for them. He loves them to death - probably more than he ever liked me,' she jokes. After moving out, Nicola agreed with Anthony that she'd walk the dogs in parks near his house at weekends.

The pet-custody issue hasn't been easy, Nicola admits. 'You want to be mean and hurtful but here are two little creatures who depend off you and give you unconditional love. They have feelings too. They don't like to be unsettled, and get very upset when 'Mom' and 'Dad' are fighting.'

Pets are People Too

Animals definitely experience a fairly rich emotional life. Pets feel the same basic emotions we do, such as pleasure, ecstasy, fear, frustration, anger, misery and depression. When a pet has built a relationship with someone in the household the animal can be affected psychologically if the person suddenly leaves. A custody arrangement with visitation rights can help limit the damage - as long as you and your ex don't get tense or argue when you meet to hand over the animals. In these situations, animals become extremely distressed, jumping on people and becoming quite aggressive. In the long term, distressed pets can develop behavioral problems such as barking and howling excessively, or self-mutilating. If a visitation arrangement will unsettle the animal more, it's better that there is a clean break.

On the positive side, cats and dogs are among the world's most adaptive creatures, adjusting well to new circumstances. Your animal may miss you initially but, thankfully, they have shorter memories than we do. Generally, dogs wake up happy and don't mind much whether it's you, your ex or a devoted new owner who's feeding and walking them. And those enthusiastic face licks when you visit? Animals love attention. They respond when a visitor shows them more than usual attention - the animal hasn't necessarily been missing you.

Your Kennel or Mine?

When a relationship is falling apart, we humans are at our most irrational, angry and self-pitying. During pet-custody negotiations, don't let your animals become pawns in your personal relationship battle. The decision has to be based primarily on what's best and least disruptive for the animal, not on trying to make a point.

Beware of arguing to keep Fluffy and Shaka because you're 'more closely bonded' to them. Often, it's a partner who doesn't want the relationship to end who'll use the seemingly viable excuse that 'the animal's heart will be broken' if they're not around. Don't kid yourself. Is it really in the animal's best interest or just in yours?

There are many devices used in the world of shih tzu training, and some are obviously more effective than others. One of the shih tzu training devices that does work well, however, is known collectively as the head collar.

The head collar is a device that is designed to wrap around the nose of the shih tzu and then attach behind the head. It uses the pressure points on the shih tzuÂ’s nose and head to apply pressure which stops the shih tzu from pulling, jumping and straining against the leash.

Many people who see head collars mistake them for muzzles. This can make many people nervous when the shih tzu is out and about, and it bothers some dog owners as well. Beyond that, however, the head collar can be a valuable training tool for many dogs, particularly large breeds that may have learned their own strength and are difficult to control with a normal buckle collar.

There are two main brands of head collar on the market, the Halti and the Gentle Leader. Most people find the Gentle Leader easier to use than the Halti. In addition, the Gentle Leader is designed to fasten around the dogÂ’s neck. With this design, if the shih tzu manages to remove the muzzle portion, it is still wearing a collar. While it is difficult for most dogs to get out of the muzzle portion of a head collar, some shih tzu do figure out how to perform this trick.

The Halti version, on the other hand, generally provides better control of the dog, and it is often favored with those working with large, aggressive dogs for that reason.

Training the shih tzu with a head collar is often easier for beginning dog trainers and inexperienced dog owners than is training with a regular buckle color. Head collars are quite good at stopping even the strongest dogs from pulling and straining, since these devices use leverage to give the handler more control.

Head collars are often favored by many people for handling shih tzu in difficult situations, such as being around other dogs or taking a trip to the vet. A head collar can be quite effective at controlling the dog in frightening and difficult situations, even when it is not used for regular training.

It is better, actually, to use head collars as occasional training tools or reminders, not as a replacement for a regular buckle collar or training collar. That is because many shih tzu quickly learn to tell the difference between the head collar and the normal collar, and adjust their behavior accordingly. Therefore, the shih tzu that behaves perfectly while wearing the head collar may suddenly jump and strain out of control when returned to the regular collar.

That fact, of course, points up the limitation of any training device, even one as effective as a head collar. The goal of any quality shih tzu training program should be to create a willing, obedient shih tzu that can be controlled by nothing more than the handlerÂ’s voice.

Even if you plan to never allow your shih tzu to go outside without a collar and lead, a well trained shih tzu should be capable of walking with you without a leash, even if there are a great many distractions around. The head collar can help guide you to this goal, but it is till up to you to gain the respect and trust of the shih tzu that will allow it to become a truly well trained member of the family.

These experts have probably seen many head collars used, and they may be able to provide valuable insight on the type of training device that will work the best for you.

There isn't anything any woman likes more than finding a great bargain on fashion. I always look for discount designer clothes and discount designer shoes when I shop. My friends are always amazed at women's causal clothing bargains I've found. I own several fake designer handbags, and my friends think they're real. It's easier than you think to find deals.

My husband is right. I'm a shopping fool, whether online or in the store or through a catalog I always seem to be looking. But one thing he doesn't give me credit for is that I always shop for discount designer clothes.

When I bought a new Longitude women's swimsuit I got it at 30% off.I found a fabulous and flattering Carol Wior swimsuit at the end of the season last year that looked great on me this year. When I look for fitness clothes I always look for bargains too. I have found Champion and Fila women's fitness clothes at great discounts.

Ah, my fake designer handbags, my absolutely favorite things. I've a Fendi Spy bag, and a Balenciaga Motorcycle bag, and a Chloe Paddington. The next fake designer handbag I'm planning to buy is a Louis Vuitton Monogram Denim Cruise Mini Pleaty. I always look for what are called mirror handbags, which are exact replicas. Absolutely no one knows that these bags are fake designer handbags, and I don't tell!

I also buy designer replica sunglasses. With the price of plastic designer sunglasses in the $300-$500 range there is no way I'd buy the real thing. I'd rather buy designer replica sunglasses or designer inspired sunglasses and save hundreds of dollars. I also have to wear reading glasses, so I play with them too. I love buying designer reading glasses of all different shapes and colors and use them to further accessorize my wardrobe.

Since I buy more classic then trendy clothing and shoes I buy at the end of season. Since I choose more classic clothing and shoes my discount designer clothes and discount designer shoes never go out of style!
