Lunging balance training system?
I just bought a balance training system for my 5yr old QH. It came with the cavason, pully's surcingle and the piece that goes on the hind quarters. How do I correctly fit it to my horse and it didn't come with a bit so do I just throw my headstall and bit on him underneith the cavason and then just hook my lunge line to the cavason???
You fit the cavason the same as you would a bridle (a bit looser if you plan to have a headstall with a bit underneath).
The Surcingle should fit tight enough that it does not slide from side to side, but not as tight as a girth does.
As for hooking the lunge line, it is easiest to hook it on the middle loop of the cavason because you don't have to switch it every time you change directions. but it really doesn't matter. (and yes.. you hook the lunge to the cavason, not the bit)

Good pet gates for wide openings?
I'm looking for a sturdy, high quality (e.g., not wobbly and preferably metal rather than wood, as I don't want it to be chewed on) pet gate to separate my kitchen from my living room. My difficulty is that the opening for that space is about 70". I also need a gate that either has a latched door or that easily swings out of the way when not in use. Any recommendations? Thanks!
extension gates. They can be found in the childrens sections at stores like walmart or k mart. They are great. Also check places like second hand childrens stores. I know the chewing thing. My dog ate probably 4 wood ones before we found a good plastic ones. If you get a thick plastic one it might work. But yeah their are longer gates/fences out there. Check petsmart or other bigger pet stores like that. I know the one I had at one point extended to 92 inches and was 48 inches high but they get pricey with the size here's one on the cheaper side thats pretty good

West Dorset beaches
Burton Bradstock beach - no dogs between 1st May and 30th September, except on East Beach.
West Bexington beach - dogs allowed in a restricted area.
Eype beach - dogs permitted.
West Bay - no dogs to the west of East Cliff
Lyme Regis - between 1st April and 31st October no dogs on Lyme Regis's front beach and on leads for rest of year. Dogs allowed on Monmouth Beach, Cobb Gate and East Beach.
Charmouth beach - no dogs from 1st May to 30th September.
East Devon beaches
Beer beach - dogs are not permitted on the western side of the beach from 1st May to 30th September.
Budleigh Salterton - dogs are not permitted on the main beach from 1st May to 30th September.
Seaton - dogs are not permitted on the main beach from 1st May to 30th September.
Sidmouth - dogs are not permitted on the main beach from 1st May to 30th September.
The beauty of the West Dorset and East Devon area is that even when there is restricted access to the beaches there are so many other wonderful places to walk with your dog. With public footpaths and bridleways criss-crossing the area you will be spoilt for choice. You can enjoy cliff top walks, hill walks, river walks and woodland walks – you and your dog will enjoy the wonderful new territory to explore.
The considerate dog owner will be happy to abide by some basic 'house rules' when visiting pet friendly cottages – they are pretty common sense rules. Holiday cottage owners generally ask that dogs are kept off the furniture and out of bedrooms. Furminator question?
I want to get a furminator mainly for my yellow lab but I could see my 4 cats benefiting from it as well..am I able to use a medium furminator for a dog on a cat?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the furminator!! I have a yellow lab as well, and nothing seemed to work very well her, and I have a Cairn Terrier who has super crazy coarse hair. The Furminator works GREAT on both of them! I totally think you could use it on your kitty too. You'll just have to be more gentle. It works so great that you won't have to use much pressure for it to do it's job. It's expensive, but you'll love it! Oh, by the way...don't get the small one, get the next one up. The small one is much too small for a lab, but the one bigger isn't too big for a cat.

On the fourth day, as you repeat the procedures of the first three days, you'll discover that there's no more opposition and no games. This is simple enough, unless your dog happens to become momentarily distracted and forgetful.
And that is just exactly what you want to happen, so that he will learn to overcome momentary temptation and distraction and keep his attention focused on you. After all, obedience is needed particularly in time of emergency, and since you are going to build obedience as well as character into your dog, it is not too much to ask, that, at a time when other dogs would yield to distraction and temptation, your dog has his attention totally focused on you.
Your job from day four until your pet learns to ignore temptation is to use distraction and temptation during your fifteen-minute training sessions. The procedures will be nearly the same as the first three days, except that you will walk in the direction of the distraction or temptation and hope that your dog will rush recklessly toward it.
You will of course have chosen that precise moment to wish him goodbye on his journey, turn, and walk fast in the opposite direction. And, as you may expect, his journey will be short (fifteen to twenty feet) before he turns around and walks toward you. Your dog will not hate you for having to turn around because he won't associate his abrupt change of direction with you at all.
What Your Dog Will Know For Sure
The last four days have shown him that you will move whenever you choose, and in whatever direction you choose without first checking to see if it's alright with him. Your dog knew this. What happened was his fault because he took his attention and eyes off you for a moment and gave in to temptation. It was just "coincidental" that you decided to move, at that same moment, and in the direction opposite to that in which he was heading.
You know that the move wasn't really a coincidence, but your dog doesn't know this, and will never know. What he will come to realize is that when a distraction or temptation appears, that is the exact moment that you will choose to reverse your direction of travel.
If you do your work well for the next few days, your dog will come to consider every temptation or distraction as a reminder and a cue to keep his eyes and attention on you. Distractions and temptations include people and things such as a skateboarder, a strange cat, another dog, a rolling ball, or a plate of food.
The list can go on and on, depending on your dog's personality. However, to have someone call your dog by name in an attempt to distract him must be considered unfair. You must stick to other situations and things.
In Conclusion
To conclude this part of training, remember to always walk briskly in a straight line, with confidence in your movement. If you hesitate or walk slow, your dog will not develop the necessary confidence. Never give your dog verbal commands when working with him on the long-line. You're not teaching him to heel yet.
For now, you're teaching him four things. First, when tied to a person, he must move with that person. Second, your determination, will, and status are such that you will walk anywhere and at any time without first checking to see if it's alright with him. Third, in order for him to be aware of your movement, and in which direction you'll be walking, he needs to pay attention to you because you won't let him know in advance. Fourth, when distraction or temptation appears, they are not excuses to be inattentive. On the contrary, that is when he must be the more attentive and focused on you.

Pet Strollers Dogs
Dog strollers.....where to find a decent price one (reason for needing it inside)?
Okay I'm not a huge fan of the idea of doggie strollers and such but we go to the flea market a lot and we are able to take our poodle since he can be carried. Well the rule is pets are allowed if they can be carried or in a stroller......well we hate that we can't take our other dog with us....our mix Sasha who is 22 pounds and hard to carry (when you pick her up she is dead weight) so we looked at some doggie strollers today that can hold a dog up to 35 pounds and just wondering what the typical price of the stroller is (it looks like one of those athletic baby strollers) this one was 85 dollars.

$85 dollars is and excellent price for a stroller. At the pet store i work at they sell anywhere from $189 up to $259.
