What is the legal age limit of driving an all terrain vehicle in South Carolina?
A group of kids from the church are wanting to go on a trip riding ATVs. I need to know about the age requirements of North and South Carolina, and also any insurance restrictions or liabilities.

North Carolina:
Prohibits parent or guardian from knowingly permitting a person:
Under age 8 to operate an ATV;
*Under age 12 to operate an ATV of 70cc or greater;
*Under age 16 to operate an ATV over 90cc;
Under age 16 to operate an ATV unless under the continuous visual supervision of a person at least age 18.
* For any parent or guardian of a person born on or before August 15, 1997, the prohibitions marked with an asterisk above do not apply if the parent or guardian establishes proof that the parent or guardian owned the ATV prior to August 15, 2005.
South Carolina:
S. 348 -- "CHANDLER'S LAW"
STATUS: Senate sustained veto (5/29)
The legislation provides that it is unlawful for a parent or legal guardian to permit his child six years of age or younger to operate an ATV. A person fifteen years old or younger may not operate an ATV unless the person possesses a safety certificate indicating successful completion of an ATV safety course. The legislation also provides that it is unlawful to operate an ATV while under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance, in a negligent or reckless manner, or in a manner that damages flora or fauna, roads, trails, firebreaks, signs, gates, guardrails, bridges, fencing, or other public property. It also exempts ATVs from personal property taxes.
Since "Chandlers Law" was vetoed by the South Carolina Govenor There has been no attempt to regulate ATV age reqirements that I could locate.
