Do anti barking devises work?

my neighbours dog wakes me up at 4am and talking to them has done nothing they still leave him outside, i have young children and its not fair on them either, im so tired ! and its really getting me down, if i cant find a solution im thinking of moving -aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Unless the neighbors are interested in paying for it and using it * consistently* and *persistently* it probably won't work.

The collars work if it is fitted correctlly and can make contact with the dog's neck/skin. The "silent noisemakers' would require one that reaches the distance and can cover the area.

I know everyone has already been awakened, but I'd call them EVERY time the dog wakes you up and bite your tongue, politely say "Your dog is barking. It has been barking for over ?20? minutes. It may be barking at something or someone. Please do something." Write this down on a calendar.

Use a camera and get a short video of the dog barking and maybe a recorder to show how long and loud the dog barks.

My neighbors' teenager son who lived in the house on the other side next to the barking dog bought simple holiday firecrackers. He hid in the thick bushes, and each time the dog barked, he loudly said "Quiet!" and set a firecracker off along the edge of the fence near the dog - didn't even toss it in the yard. Of course, the dog went ballistic barking. If the dog ran off and remained quiet, nothing happened. If the dog barked, "POPPP!" The owners got up because of the noise and barking. So, their sleep was recked. The owners did a search and found nothing. They could not claim someone was throwing firecrackers *at* the dog. After 3 - 4 nights, the neighbors' sleep was recked, they called the police and of course, "no one" knew anything.

I had called the owner, the teenager's father had called them, and the neighkbor knew what the problem was. Thereafter, the dog slept in the garage at night.

I had to laugh even though I was being awakened, too. Leave it to a kid!

Find out the law. Call your local animal control shelter and ask them. They should be able to tell you the law, maybe give you a copy, and the number of the Title or Code. Go by the Law.

You don't need to put up with this.

Just be aware that people are callous and could drop the dog at the shelter before they get in trouble with the Law. I know of a man who did exactly this. He was not providing water at times, and the dog's chain kept the dog from reaching the water...... in 100+ heat.

The neighbor called animal control who wrote a citation/warning. The worst thing was is that he demanded the dog be killed - he asked for the papers to euthanize the dog out of spite to the neighbor who DID go down and try to rescue the dog.
