Can you take a booster seat on an airplane?
A few years ago we took a vacation and took our daughter's booster seat on the plane with us. Recently a person told me that you can no longer do so and basically called me a liar. So what's the real answer?
The primary reason we took the booster with us was so that we'd have it for use in our rental car at our destination. The airline (Continental) had no problem with us using the seat on the plane. Thanks to everybody who answered.
You can bring the booster seat onboard but you can't use it for the flight. Some people bring them onboard so that they don't get crushed or lost in luggage but they need to stow them somewhere onboard. It may count as a "carry-on" bag.
The purpose of a booster is to position the shoulder strap and airplanes only have lap belts. Also, airplane seats collapse forward. This is to help in an evacuation. Only hard-backed car seats therefore are of any use to protect a child. Boosters, therefore, don't serve any purpose anyway.

It's now approved for use in the U.K., Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
I have a hard-backed car seat that goes to around age 5 (65lbs) which is FAA approved. This can be brought onboard and used on U.S. aircrafts. They have since come up with a version that goes to 80lbs. The advantage of these seats is that they hold the child in much safer in a 5 point harness instead of only three points which boosters do. I was more concerned with road, rather than air travel when I bought mine. The fact I can take it onboard was an extra advantage!
