As the hot sun beats down, cooking all the rank contents of the ever so primitive port-a-potty. I realized how much I dread using the outdoor toilet. I could not imagine what I would do if I had lost something valuable in one of those toilets. This actually happened to my coworker a few weeks ago. We were repairing a highway and my buddy emerged from the portable toilet with his cell phone clasped in the tips of his two fingers. He came up to me with a disgusted look on his face. He then continued to tell me that he had to fish his blackberry out of the toilet. "Why not leave it", I inquired. He replied, "this is 500 hundred dollar phone and I do not want to lose all of my important phone numbers." I was so amazed I had to find out what else of value has been captured from the toilet. Embrace yourself for the following facts I found.
1. I know washing a dog is not tough but this is definitely not the best way. A bizarre and sad story especially for all the dog lovers out there. After noticing that his puppy was muddy, a four year old boy decided to give his pet a bath by flushing it down the toilet. Fortunately the puppy was found with a special camera. A team of people rescued the puppy in the sewer pipes twenty feet from the young boy's home.
2. Engagement down the drain. While flushing the toilet at a diner in Phoenix. A woman accidentally flushed her 70,000 dollar engagement ring. After finding the ring with a fiber optic camera the restaurant agreed to let a plumbing and excavating company jackhammer the floor to reach the ring deep in the sewer. They recovered the ring intact costing the lady a couple of thousand of dollars.
3. 250 million pounds of drugs flushed down the toilet. No, this was not Pablo Escobar's home. Hospitals and nursing homes flush a total of two hundred and fifty pounds of pharmaceuticals down the toilet every year. Flushing pharmaceuticals down the toilet is actually causing harm to fish in many numerous bodies of water. Many harmful affects are felt by the fish, but the biggest damage is done to their reproduction systems.
4. Guys arm. This story is all to familiar. A guy in France accidentally dropped his cell phone in a high speed train's toilet. The man went to retrieve the phone and ended up getting his arm stuck. The poor Frenchman was carried out of the train in stretcher with his arm still stuck in the toilet.
5. Flushing money down the toilet. A dutch women accidentally mistakenly flushed 900 hundred euros down the toilet. Fortunately the money was rescued in the sewer by dutch workers. It is reported that the lady hung the money to dry. Then continued to spend the money on vacation. Depending on the current exchange rate 900 euros is worth well over 900 US dollars.
