Does Caeser Milan use force, shock or any kind of hurtful / mean things to train the dogs?
Whenever I watch Dog Whisperer, the dogs seem to be scared of him. My dog is very well trained without any shock collars or those awful "choke" collars and he is not afraid of me at all. So I don't know why they're scared of him.
just for reference, he DOES use them
he uses pinch collars, shock collars, and nylon choke collars.
u know what the nylon choke is used for? to cut off air supply to the dog. how sweet eh?
actually, in one episode, he didnt make it clear he was using a shock collar, but the dog become so frightened that he redirected his aggression onto his owner and bit her.
and whats funnier is, if any person EDUCATED (which he is not) in dog behavior watches the show...they can tell u that the dog's demeanor many of the times is that of being scared, nervous, frightened, and stressed out.
but i wont go into it...im sure many will disagree with the fact that i hate most things about mr. millan. but no matter. thats why its my opinion....
It's a well known fact that the majority of dog training professionals feel that the best way to train your dog is through a process called positive reinforcement training. It's a fancy word for a simple theory, using positive reinforcement by rewarding good behavior that you'd love to see repeated and to ignore the behaviors that you don't like. This method is the opposite and outdated techniques for dog training, which was techniques such as physical pain, intimidating the dog and shock collars.
Positive reinforcement works with just about every dog. The dogs natural instinct is to please you and positive reinforcement recognizes that lessons are more meaningful for dogs and seem to stick more, when your dog is able to figure out what you're asking under their own time to figure it out, as opposed to repetition. When you use positive reinforcement, the dog uses their own brain and eventually figures out what's good and bad.
A Dogs Training: Things You May Not Know
Dogs get sick and tired of being praised by a pat on the head and saying "good dog." As a matter of fact, most dogs don't even like being patted on the head. Take a minute and watch their expression. Most will shy away and flinch when you go to pat them on the head.
In order to keep your dogs attention span high, use food treats and physical affection as primary incentives. They're the things that dogs respond to the most. It's all about training. When your dog responds to a command, you must mark that good behavior with a reward. This makes the dog realize that what they did was right.
Dogs Training: Other Methods
Some people use the clicker training to teach their dogs. This is a small metal device that makes a clicking sound when pressed. The clicker is pressed at the exact time that the dog performs the desired outcome. You don't necessarily need to go out and by a clicker, by simply saying "Yes!" in a friendly and happy tone, this will help too. Don't forget to give your dog a reward after. Be consistent with the praise. Remember that this will be your marker for good behavior.
When you're teaching a dog with a command, you need to decide ahead of time the verbal cue you want to teach them and stick to it. So if you were teaching your dog not to jump on you, saying things like "get off of me," or "get down," won't worry. Commands such as "No Jump" should work good. Be sure to stick with the verbal cue.
