Air conditioner R22?
EPA certified but it is my first time. Need to evac my 3 ton system. Small leak I have recovery machine. Will run nitrogen in the system with a trace gas about 50 lbs and use an electronic leak detector. But how do I get the freon back in? Is it suck in from liquid and suction side? Do I need a charging unit or does the recovery tank push it back in? Have a recovery tank ARI 740 cert. brand new 50 lbs System is holding 133ozs about 8 lbs.

You're EPA certified? and you don't know how to recharge an ac?
If you've never done it, I'd suggest you watch a pro,,
once you have the leak repaired, (most likely place for a leak is the charging valves) you need to pull a deep vacuum on the system to remove any moisture, nitrogen and trace gases. You'll need a vacuum pump, manifold and gages, quick release valve and preferably a set of scales to measure the refrigerant when you recharge the system. You should also have an amp probe and thermometer to take current and temp readings during the process. The quick release valve is required to comply with EPA regs. Recharging can be done on either the high pressure side or the low pressure side if you know how it's done, otherwise I'd recommend you stick with the low pressure side (that's the suction line) Your recovery tank is no different than any other tank, except it has used refrigerant in it. Once the pressures equalize between the tank and condensing unit, refrigerant flow stops, so you generally let the condensing unit run to draw refrigerant into itself, If you don't know how to read the pressure gages, I'd highly recommend you hire someone who does, otherwise you can easily destroy the compressor which costs more to replace than it would to replace an entire condensing unit.
