Pet Dog Breeds
Replacing a beloved lost pet with dog of same breed?
For the last year, I dog sat a young golden retriever Mon-Thu for a good friend who was assigned an out of state project with a lot of travel. It was a great dog - playful, good natured and affectionate - and I came to love her like my own.
She died suddenly and unexpectedly in an accident yesterday (while with her owner) and I have been devestated and heart-broken to an extent I would not thought possible. I can't believe how much I loved that silly dog.
But taking care of her, reminded me how nice it is to have a dog around and I think - after some time passes - I will get one of my own. I would like to get another golden - I like their personalities and appearence.
My question - for people that have been through this - is it harder or easier if the new dog is the same breed as the old? Or does gettting another of the same breed make you remember (and miss) the old one more? Is it better to wait quite a while or get a new one while you still miss the old one?
First my condolences. i am so sorry. that is so sad and tragic.
i have been through a loss, lost my bullmastiff, and even though a new dog will never replace your dog that passed away, i wish i would have gotten a new dog right away.
because one, i was so depressed for the longest time, and i believe training a new dog keeps u busy and entertained, and give you the love and comfort and joy,
you have to be very careful if you get a dog, because your dog will know if you are morning, you can not show the dog you are morning. it was said by Dog Whisperer Ceasar milan.
good luck,
please let us know what you decide to do.
so, yes same breed is fine.......but treat it as an individual....it will not replace the other dog. but will help mend your broken heart.
