How do you get tint of a rear car window when it has been on for a long time and has a defroster?

I tried using the traditional method with aa garbage bag,ammonia and razor but it wont work because this tint is so old(over 13 years and has turned purple)
It just cracks into bits.Is there any chemicals that might work like denatured alcohol or something,if so what and how would I remove it and what with?

I have been told that you can steam it off much like you would remove wallpaper. I've never had aftermarket tinted windows so I can't vouch for this method. You might also try a hand held hair dryer to loosen the glue so it will come off.

I have removed pin striping from the body using a hair dryer very easily. (A heat gun is too hot and will ruin the paint). So the hair dryer may just work on the tinted material. Good luck.
