At what age can I begin training my Beagle with the shock collar??

I started my doberman at about 10 or 11 months and use an e-collar because she chases after my horses. I went with the Dogtra 280NCP, it works pretty well. But I would strongly suggest not using an e-collar until it becomes your last resort AND also research how to use one properly before using it.

I cannot think of a more annoying sound that a dog barking for no reason, one that goes on and on and on until you think you could yell out loud. Well, there are various types of bark collar that can bring about a humane cure for this problem.

One is called a shock collar - having said this don't imagine you are half way to electrocuting your dog. The collar will recognize vibrations in the dogs throat indicating that it is barking then it will just administer a slight shock. The strength of the shock can equate to when you touch certain things and you get that tingling sensation, it is no more than that.

Eventually though your dog will learn to associate his barking with getting this feeling in his neck which, because it is something he has never had before, he won't like and he is going to learn to not bark so that he won't get that feeling in his neck again. If you don't like the idea of your dog getting a shock and really believe that it is cruel you could always opt for the Citronella collar.

This collar has little vial of Citronella liquid and when the collar recognizes that the dog is barking it releases a mist of Citronella in front of the dogs nose. Dogs do not like this citric odor so eventually he will learn that if he doesn't bark he won't get this nasty smell underneath his nose.

Perhaps you would prefer a sonic bark collar to either of the above. This one, again after it recognizes bark vibrations in the dogs throat, emits a sonic tone which only the dog can hear.

Each time the dog barks the sound increases in strength and it will go on increasing as long as the dog barks. After the dog has barked more than 15 times in one minute the collar will rest for a while to give the dog a break in the training process, then begin all over again - that is if the dog is still barking.

I honestly cannot say what effect this sonic sound will have on any other pets you have in the house because they obviously will hear it. It would be a shame to punish them for something they aren't doing. Also there is the question of the dog you are trying to train being deaf. I cannot see this sonic collar working on a deaf dog. Barking dogs are not just an annoyance to the owner, you have to consider living next door to all this noise.

Disputes both verbal and legal have been the result of a dog being left to bark unchecked. Perhaps you work and the dog is left unattended during the day, you really do need to know that it is not creating a nuisance which will cause you problems.
