So far recession still seems to be living in every part of our lives. As winter approaches, it brings with it not only Christmas but also high energy prices!

Yes, we all like winter because Christmas is a part of it, many of us co-relate the two together as Christmas brings with it snow too!! This is the bright appealing side of winter, but if look on the dull and gloomy side, with winter we are presented with sky high rocketing energy bills, that majority of us have to deal with.

So this upcoming winter I plan to go ten steps ahead of it and want to be fully prepared to face the high energy bills.

The first step on my list is draught proofing which involves filling the gaps of wooden floorboards with an acrylic sealant, and sewing a heavy lining into thin curtains that would help to stop the heat from escaping out of the window.Also to make sure all my windows are double glazed.

Secondly I plan to replace all my 100 watts bulbs with energy saving light bulbs. I still think why did I bought these high voltage light bulbs. I believe I was not well aware of the fact that how much energy these 100 watt bulbs use and just the mere fact that they give bright light to my rooms I got them! So my advice to all is please get rid of these high voltage bulbs and replace them with energy saving bulbs, you will see the difference.

My next step would be to install loft insulation, and cavity wall insulation which is considered the most cost effective way to save energy in the home. It may seem that getting this task done can be costly and time consuming, but then it plays such a significant role in saving energy that all the cost and time is soon forgotten.

My 2 cents to all the readers is increase your knowledge and awareness towards energy saving techniques. We all are a part of this world and only together we can make a it an eco-friendly environment
